In the first phase, the 7-kilometer transport line will link the checkpoint at the India-Nepal border with the city’s bus station, bringing significant improvements to traffic congestion and environmental sustainability in Biratnagar. In the future, this line is set to be extended by 45 kilometers, which has already received approval from the federal government.
The agreement was signed during the Koshi Investment Summit, which was attended by the top leadership of Nepal. Mr. Hikmat Kumar Karki, Head of the Koshi Province Government, expressed his full support for the project, noting that the implementation of Unitsky String Transport would help resolve transportation issues not only in the province but throughout Nepal. The project’s lead, Kathmandu Podway Company Pvt. Ltd., has also signed an investment partnership agreement with the provincial government during the summit, further strengthening their collaboration with the government.

After the development of the concept design and completion of pre-engineering, research, and estimation works, the engineering and construction of the UST transport and infrastructure complex will be carried out. The line is envisaged to be operational within 2.5 years, with a capacity to serve up to 10 million passengers annually. The Unitsky String Transport has a great future in Nepal, where several major UST projects have already been approved at the state level. These projects will enhance mobility and strengthen the country’s transport connectivity. Additionally, the Government of Nepal is also considering the implementation of a high-speed UST system, spanning approximately 1,000 kilometers, as a cost-effective alternative to high-speed rail, which involves considerably higher costs.

The agreement was signed during the Koshi Investment Summit, which was attended by the Honorable Prime Minister of Nepal, Mr. Khadga Prasad Sharma Oli.
